I have been following the microblading/3D eyebrow trend since last summer, and I have been anxiously waiting until I could find the right time to do mine. I have been longing to have them done before our long trip in the fall so I can slip away from the daily struggle to make my two awkwardly shaped eyebrows match one another. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with nice eyebrows. They may have been popular in the ’90s, but I was too young to appreciate my skinny little caterpillars so early on in life. I have been filling in my eyebrows for a few years now, making them thicker and longer, but last summer I decided that I wanted to be able to wake up in the morning and not look like a little kid. So, then came the time to book my eyebrow appointment.
The first problem was to find a beauty salon that I wanted. It is very expensive here in Gothenburg (it can be anywhere from 3000-6000 SEK, which include the initial appointment and a return visit 4-6 weeks later). I, being cheap, really did not want to spend that much money. However, I also did not want to spend too little and wind up at a back alley beauty parlour and an infection on my face. I bravely checked out Let’s Deal for offers here in Gothenburg. I ended up choosing to get my eyebrows microbladed at Skönhet & Laserklinik after stalking their Instragram page for hours. The deal was 995 SEK for the first visit. It did not include the touch-up visit which I will get done in about 4 weeks, but that costs 900 SEK, so, I feel like it was a steal to get everything for under 2000 SEK. After a mini breakdown two weeks before my appointment, I emailed them to clarify how I wanted my eyebrows and to explain how nervous I was. Thankfully, my beautician, Palwasha Feizi, made me feel really calm since she was so competent and friendly.
So, yesterday was the day of goodbye thin eyebrows, hello full ones! Skönhet & Laserklinik is in Partille but it is quite easy to get there from downtown Gothenburg if you time the busses right.
Inside the beauty salon, it was clean and easy on the eyes. First, I filled out some forms and waivers. I think the most important thing is to get information (as I did) via email before you go in for your appointment. Then we discussed the shape and colour I wanted for my brows. Palwasha drew an outline of how my eyebrows would look like (I forgot to take a picture, sorry!). She was very good at discussing what I should start out with. She discussed that it is better to have them a bit thinner to start since it is easier to add more thickness later on. Of course, it is impossible to take away the colour. So, be smart and remember, less is more! In Canada, it is common that you have a numbing cream so you do not feel any pain. Palwasha advised against this since it apparently causes the colour to not set as well. At first, I was really afraid to get them microbladed and feel each stroke. However, it really wasn’t that bad. I consider myself a big baby and I have had massages that have been more painful. Everyone describes it as small papercuts repetitively going into your skin. I think this is a very accurate description. It is really tough to explain the feeling. It wasn’t really painful, but it definitely wasn’t pleasant either. I actually think the most uncomfortable part was the noise that was made as the cuts were made. They had music playing which helped distract me; however, I read in another blog that the person listened to music with their headphones. I would definitely suggest this since then you wouldn’t be as affected by the noise. The pictures below are directly after she has microbladed my eyebrows and placed dye on it so it can sink into the cuts. The picture on the right is when she placed more dye on certain areas since they were not dark enough.
Below are pictures immediately after my appointment. As you can see, the lines are more distinct. They will fade in the next couple weeks. The colour is a bit dark (it will also fade) and my eyebrows look a bit red since my skin has been attacked the last hour and a half. After my appointment, I had dinner with 3 of my friends. I had to carefully wet, dry, and apply Vasolene every hour after my appointment until I went to sleep. It is really important that you follow the aftercare instructions given by your beautician. If you want good results then you have to treat your eyebrows right and make sure that you do not do anything that risks getting an infection.
Below are my eyebrows the next day. I have been thoroughly warned that they will be darker and swollen the day after. I definitely notice that they are darker but they are not really that swollen. To be honest, I imagined that they would be much darker, but this colour is really not that bad. I think it looks quite nice. The lines are till really distinct. I am definitely looking forward to when they blend in a bit more naturally in my face. At my retouch visit, I can decide if I want to have them darker or fuller. It is too soon to say yet. So far, I am quite impressed and I feel like I have made the right decision. If you are living in the Gothenburg region, then try this place out!
The aftercare now is a lot easier. I just have to apply Vasolene throughout the day, specifically when I shower, in the mornings, and before I sleep. I also have to avoid touching my eyebrows which will be annoying later on when they start to itch. That stage hasn’t really started yet. I also have to avoid working out (you can’t sweat) and getting them wet for an entire week. There are also some other rules, for example, you can’t use cleaning products or hairspray in the first 4-7 days. So, read the instructions carefully! I will write a new post once I do my return visit next month. I hope they become the eyebrows that I have alwayswanted!
