What is Brunei and Should You Visit it?

Last time I posted, I wrote about the gruelling ferry ride from Kota Kinabalu to Brunei. We arrived on Friday to Brunei and left on Sunday after a short two-night stay.

I have to admit, before this trip, I had never even heard of Brunei. When you think of South East Asia travels, you think of Thailand and Vietnam. Even when I mentioned that Danne and I were travelling to Borneo, I had many people ask me: “And where is that?”.

So, if you haven’t heard of Brunei, don’t feel too bad. Brunei is Asia’s least populated country. If you have been to China, then the contrast of the population is like night and day.

How to Get from Kota Kinabalu to Brunei

If you are travelling in Borneo and want to get from Sabah to Sarawak, the natural way is to go through Brunei! We flew into Kota Kinabalu and decided to travel via 2 boats to get to Brunei. In this post, I am going to explain how to get from Kota Kinabalu to Brunei. From Brunei, you can take a bus onward to Miri if your final destination happens to be Sarawak. However, who wouldn’t want to stay a few nights in the wonderful country Brunei?

This is the best route to connect you from Kota Kinabalu to Brunei. All the blogs that I have read recommend that you buy tickets the day before. By the time we realized that the ticketing agent was already closed for the day—whoopsie!
