Best Places for After Work in Gothenburg

Hello there!

party

Well, I am currently heading on a bus to Oslo to go visit some of my girlfriends there. Feeling a bit anxious since I won’t get my renewed passport until next week, so hopefully, I can make it through the border control. In the past 3 years, I have taken at least 20 buses between Gothenburg and Oslo, and I have been stopped only one time. So, here I am crossing my fingers for some good luck.

Well, with the thoughts of TGIF (thank god it’s Friday) running through my head I thought I would blog a little bit more locally. If you didn’t know, the Swedes are crazy about their after work (also know as AW). This is where the partying starts at 3 pm and ends sometimes at dinnertime! I mean, who can party on an empty stomach? So, here it is: where are the best places for after work in Gothenburg?

Best Overall:

1. Out of Office at Trädgår’n or Clariton Hotel Post
What? Out of Office is a great concept. The purpose is to network (which is exactly what teachers need to do, find more teacher friends to complain to) and to have a good time. The best wait to describe Out of Office is a nightclub that starts at 4 pm and ends at 9 pm.
Why?
Did you read what I said? It is a club that you can leave at 9 pm and feel like you haven’t wasted your night. Go home afterwards if you want to! You just burned a million calories dancing. Good for you. It can be a bit awkward with the timing since you may need to eat before (if you are hungry little hippos like my friends and me) but this is definitely worth checking out. Good music and good vibes.

Best Nightclubs:

2. Lounge(s)
What? This is a nightclub which is very popular on Friday nights. There are drink specials earlier in the night.
Why? They play THE BEST music on the little dance floor on the second floor. The decor is cool in the main room. This is just a fun place and it is always super busy on Friday nights. It was only 9 pm when I went in last time and everyone was partying.

3. Yaki-Da
What?
This is one of the most famous nightclubs in Gothenburg. Lots of floors and perfect for different music tastes.
Why?
They have pizza there! Finally, some food to soak up all the booze. Yaki-Da has a bunch of different dance floors so there is music there to suit anyone’s need. The restaurant/saloon upstairs is unbelievable cozy, with live jazz music to soothe your soul. Be warned though, my least favourite bounces are here.

Best Places for a More Chill After Work:

4. Le Pain Francais Bistro
What?
Surprisingly super cozy! These are usually cafes, but this establishment on Avenyn is perfect for a good AW. Go upstairs for plush pillows and good food.
Why?
I like food. Here you can get a pretty good buffet for 98 kr. I like the atmosphere here and the drinks are good. Go early to get a good spot. Since you’re going to eat there, I would recommend right when you’re off work. It is also super close to all of the other clubs since it is located in the heart of Avenyn.

5. Odyssea In Loco
What?
A small restaurant with good drinks and food.
Why?
I can’t help it. I like my meat, potatoes, and sauce on a Friday night. This place is perfect for picky eaters (they’re in my group of friends!) since you can mix and match to make your perfect meal. Their drinks are also quite tasty!

Well, there it is. My favourite places to go for an after work. Let me know if there are any other places that you like in Gothenburg!

xx
